Beth Piatote

Board Member, Indigenous Nations Poets

Beth Piatote is a Nez Perce writer, scholar, playwright, and Indigenous Language Revitalization activist. She is the author of two books: Domestic Subjects: Gender, Citizenship, and Law in Native American Literature (Yale 2013); The Beadworkers: Stories (Counterpoint 2019); the play, Antíkoni; a forthcoming collection of poems, and many articles, poems, and stories in journals and anthologies. She is an associate professor of English and Comparative Literature at UC Berkeley, where she co-created the Designated Emphasis in Indigenous Language Revitalization and founded the Indigenous Poetics Lab. She is currently the Director of the Arts Research Center at UC Berkeley.
